`LostKitten suggested that I make a stamp like this out of the similar ones in my gallery. Tadaaa!
The rant, rehashed:
I'm tired of hearing people say that atheists and agnostics are moral savages with no respect for anyone or anything. There are just as many religious jerks out there-- it's the nature of assholes to be assholes.
Also, if religion is the only thing that keeps you from stealing, lying, murdering, and cheating on your significant other, or perhaps committing suicide, I am officially scared of/for you.
A DD? SRSLY? Thank you guys. XD; I'm a bit overwhelmed.
I'd like to re-clarify:
I don't hate religious people. I love my super awesome religious friends. I know there are plenty of religious people that aren't jerks, you don't have to tell me there are jerks in every group. I was just a little tired of hearing that people like me are "amoral." I can't force myself to believe in a god-- I tried-- and I wish that weren't some people's basis for telling me and other people like me that we're bad people. Don't judge a person by their religion (or lack thereof) alone. Judge them by their actions.
I've always thought that if there was to be a god, it'd fit in an analogy like this. The person who sets up the board and merely lets the game play itself out. It doesn't need to fit the evil king stereotype of making his subject bow down to beg mercy, nor any definitive laws to live by(bar the most basic ones), and it certainly doesn't need a definitive path to follow. It merely allows for the universe to scatter itself down from a single point, guardians and destroyers rising and falling to see the universe come to a best possible end, then reset the board with new pieces to see if this game can't be a little bit different.
By the way, religious and non-religious, stop fighting and connect yourself on this point. you both believe in an original creator(not god), as in religious see the creator(s) as beings whom put the complex points of life into place at the beginning, whilst non-religious see the creator as being a collision of atoms causing a monumental reaction to take place. And, truthfully, I see no reason that all these ideals cannot coexist, as the only difference is one is a realm of chaos and chance, while the other is total order and the definite; then in the end it circumvents back to the point that the world is the same either origin, and we should keep trying to improve the lives of those involved in any creation. Smiley Face.
This is a brilliant stamp. Reading through about 6 pages of the comments, I can't seem to understand though why these religious blokes go through all that trouble to argue with the atheists, and agnostics who are affirming this stamp. It's a great stamp and apparently they can't accept the variety of people and religions in this world. Atheism is actually a religion/religious belief (as I've read somewhere). I'm an agnostic atheist who lives with a family of christians/catholics and goes to a catholic university. They don't mind me and I don't mind them. Guess what? There's peace. We respect each other's beliefs. It's been quite a while since I've seen religious people as narrow-minded as ones down there. (Not all though, there were just a couple) They actually seek attention from people who were minding their own business and were trying to shove their god down atheists throats. I mean really, is that what your religion tells you? To discriminate other people who you can't brainwash to believe in your god nor threaten because they don't even believe in hell? I was brought up like a catholic and I've grown out of it. Science has shown me rational ways of creating life on this planet but I respect the religious side as well. I see nothing wrong with believing in one god, one hundred, or none. If it keeps you happy, sane, and less hostile then go for it. I'll respect you as a person. I have tons of religious friends who joke about inviting me to bible studies and all that. I tried going to a couple but I really didn't know how they expected me to feel after. I didn't feel different and they said it's all good. But really, the religious people down there, just wow. Morals are developed from how you were brought up. It's influenced by your surroundings. Religion has nothing to do with it. A great kid could grow up with atheistic gay parents (the church is against homosexuality, if i remember right). I don't understand why the church blurts out all this stuff saying, love your neighbors yet a lot of them frown upon homosexuals and atheists. It just doesn't make sense to me, that's all. </rant>
I have two religious friends who I've known since high school. One is a happy Catholic, the other is a sensible-minded Christian. When they sneeze, I simply say "Bless you", and they don't mind me (a non-believer) saying it because I don't judge them by their faiths and cherish them as fellow human beings.
Thank you, thank you so very much for this. This is perfect. I'm so sick and tired of hearing people say that atheists/agnostics have no morals whatsoever. I'm so sick of seeing the look on people's faces, like I'm the devil incarnate, when I happen to mention I'm an atheist/agnostic. (I'm kinda in between either of those groups.) I'm so tired of hearing people ask me: "Don't you want to be happy?" They just don't get it. I AM happy. I could never be happy lying to myself and saying I believe in a supreme being. I would be miserable then. The only part that makes me unhappy is listening to better-than-thous tell me that they're going to save me from Hell.
And you're right, religious people aren't bad as a whole. I love my religious friends, and they're fine with me. We're able to see the differences between us and be okay with that. I know a lot of REALLY nice religious people, and my best friend has said many times to me: "You're not like some atheists I know. You're courteous and you have very strong morals. I like that."
Atheism is by definition amoral. Atheism simply doesn't teach morality or much of anything besides that you shouldn't believe in God. It's a very lax confederation.
Atheists are pretty much blank slates for the religions of the world to convert to their side.
The independent voters if you will.
Also I think you are misunderstanding what people mean when they call you amoral. An amoral person has no moral standards, and is not concerned with or amenable to moral judgments. Basically your outside the scope of morality.
An immoral person acts contrary to moral principles theft, murder, adultery etc.
An amoral person can't be bad or good they just are. I can't speak for other religions since I don't know where they stand on the subject, but Christianity considers being amoral to be the best a person can be without having a personal relationship with God.
I agree with you. A few weeks ago, during the holidays I was staying with a friend and her family and even if I clearly told them that I didn't believe in God, they forced me to go the church with them to "save me from Hell". I had to stay on a bench for two hours, I nearly died out of boredom
